Italy... Venice

If before Venice was one of the richest place of the world as well as a republic, now it is a place where the renaissance art appears as an heritage of the past. The city of 150 canals crossed by 400 bridges to join the 118 islands is the perfect place for lovers to have a walk. Posted by Picasa

Germany... Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein Castle is located in Bavaria not so far from Austria. King Ludwig II started to build this castle close to his father one, but because of his mysterious death he didn't enjoy the life in one of the most visited monument of Germany. The picture is from Marienbrücke one of the oldest bridge crossing Elbe. Posted by Picasa

France... Rouen

I know I put a lot of pictures from France but maybe because you can find so different places. This is a street in the old city of Rouen. Rouen is sadly famous for being the place where Jeanne d'Arc was burnt at the stake before being consider as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church. Posted by Picasa

Finland... Tampere

Tampere is the third city of Finland and this is the... city center! In the middle of the city textil and paper factories are standing up and if nowaday most of them are close some are still using the rapids which was the main source of power not so long ago. Posted by Picasa

Esther is showing us the Versailles garden and you can see on the background the castle of Louis XIV named le roi soleil (The Sun King). This king is well known as an absolute monarch, "L'État, c'est moi" ("I am the State") is frequently attributed to him. His fabulous life style was in fact a way to keep the control on the nobles showing the power of the state.

Finland... Temppeliaukio

Temppeliaukio is an "underground" church in the middle of Helsinki. At first sight it seems strange to find a monument like that in the city center, but don't forget the changing temperature in Finland and it is always confotable to find a warm place. Posted by Picasa

Sweden... Stockholm

I like a lot this picture, I think Stockholm is a capital city where the art is omnipresent. The colors are impressive and I like in particular the ones you can find in the middle age city center. In the city you will find a lot of museums, in particular Vasa presenting the only XVII century entire boat. Posted by Picasa

France... Menton

Between Monaco and Italy there is a small city, Menton. Calm, really calm desite the increadible amount of tourist in summer, Menton has the secret of the "peacefulness" this is maybe because an important part of the population is more than 60 years old or simply because of the warm climate due to the position in the extram part of France between the sea and the montains... If you are going to the south of France don't miss that place. Posted by Picasa

Russia... the Red Square

Red square in Russia

I was surprise to see that the Red Square was empty then I discovered that when the Lenin’s mausoleum is open it is forbidden to go on the square. If the red square is a symbol of Moscow and Russia in general, the color red is not due to the communism but because of the color of the bricks around that place.
